I was wondering how the blade cuts, being as thick as it is. I have had mine for about two weeks but have not really cut anything with it. I sure know my military will cut!

Well the Southard is substantially thinner behind the edge than the Military, mine slices like a machine through rope and cardboard. I even dare say it cuts a bit better than my SOCOM Elite which is saying a lot.

It's a pretty good cutter in my experience, the hollow grind helps. It's obviously not going to zip through thick materials as well as something like a caly3/3.5 with a thin blade and ffg, but when compared to other beefy knives in the southard's class, such as the zt hinderer designs, it is certainly apparent that spyderco takes great care to make sure that first and foremost, all of their knives are high performance cutting tools, not sharpened pry bars.

I've found that the thick spine of the Southard can cause the knife to bind up when cutting thick cardboard. Other than that, as others have said, the thin hollow grind makes this knife a relatively good slicer.

I found it cuts great, especially on tough materials
