ALright, guys, I need some imput here. I saw a Queen Big Chief the other day at a hardeware store, and I'd never seen that knife before. Jackknife them on a post a few days back, and it got me thinking about possibly getting one. I want it to be a hardwork knife. However, I already have a CV Soddie Jr. Yes it still rusts up a little in my pocket all day, but the question is, should I get the Big Chief as a beater, or just use my Soddie? Does anyone have a Big chief? It looks like it would be built like a tank. Is it a tough knife? Does it keep an edge well? It's really big (5 inches closed). Is it uncomfortable to carry in the pocket? Too heavy?

I'll tell ya one thing, the casting on the aluminum handles on some of the Big Chiefs that I've seen leaves a little to be desired. A few pits, some uneveness.

But its a rough work knife that is not ment to become attached to. Loose it, use it up, no matter.

It does not carry bad due to the light weight of the aluminum handles. And with the bail it can have a lanyard attached with the end knot of the lanyard stuck under the belt, it can be retieved and opened with work gloves on if you get the one with the easy open handle.

But the bottom line is it won't do anything a Victorinox recruit can't do, but not vise versa. I think the recruit is about the same money, and its a better knife. Not to mention more versitile.

I keep a Big Chief lashed to my pack when backpacking / canoeing. It's cheap and as Jackknife says, it has a bail. That said, I don't think I have ever used it as I usually have a more-loved slippy or fixed-blade in my pocket or on my hip. I guess it's there if/when I need it.

I love Queens, I'm going to have to check that one out, the hardware stores near me only carry SAKs and the new Schrade.

Jackknife, which hardware store on the Eastern Shore carries those Queens?
