I was killing some time in an Academy Sports store in Birmingham last week. Found this little single shot rifle by CVA, in .223 for just $159.00. It came home with me.
I ordered a scope mount and rings from CVA's web site, and they arrived today. I installed those, and an elderly El Paso Weaver 20mm scope, a V4.5 variable.
After getting that mounted, I drove a mile over to the range I belong to. It took me 6 rounds to get on paper at 100 yards. Shooting 55 grain FMJ Lake City ammunition, I was pleased with three shot groups just under two inches.
I will visit the range again tomorrow, and will take some of my .223 hunting loads. 64 grain Winchester SP in new Hornady cases, with H335 powder. This is a very accurate load in my Colt HBAR.
This is going to be my stalking rifle this year.

The Winchester 64 grain SP is a proven hog killer. I have been using my old Match Target Colt HBAR for those quick follow up shots. I have not taken any deer yet with the bullet, but know people who have. They say it is a good choice in the .223.
The picture was last fall, hunting hogs in North Florida with the Colt.

Those CVA rifles have been getting RAVE reviews on another outdoors forum that I'm a member of. The price is right on them.

I had not heard about them before seeing this one in the store. The barrels are match grade, made in Spain by Begarra. I know about that company, and the quality of their products.
I was back at the range this morning, and the zero on the scope had shifted. I guess the old scope is just worn out. I have ordered a new one from OpticsPlanet, a Nikon Monarch 1-4X with German #4 reticle. I'll be back at the range this weekend, getting that one sighted in.

Removed the old scope and added a new Pentax 1.75-5X. Took a box of 64 grain Winchester SP reloads to the range today. I am satisfied with the results at 100 yards. Best group had two touching, and measured 3/4 inch.
