I recently purchased a collection of knives and in it are two Spyderco knives labeled "CX04P Experimental 4". I can't find any info about this knife and was wondering if someone could enlighten me.

Firebat -

Thanks for the info.

Looks the same except the handles on mine are stainless instead of Micarta.

Sounds like a keeper!

TOTC-

Just had a look at your collection- very nice!

"Experimental" was a short-lived name used by Spyderco in the later 90's to describe short-runs of new knife designs. I know that the "Experimental 06" were the Almite Walker designs (1000 produced). There was also a series of "Experimental" kitchen knives done in AUS-10 with stainless bolsters and black micarta handles.

There might be an explanation of the use of this term in "The Spyderco Story", but I think it was a marketing gimmick more than anything else.

Ok, I just consulted "The SpyderCo Story."

I knew I was remembering something when I mentioned the Pegasus above. The Pegasus was CX01 (mentioned on page 87) not CX04.

And on page 111 it is confirmed that the CX04 is the Calypso Jr.

Being that it's the "experimental" version of the Calypso Jr., does that give it any special value?
