aloha all,

as you well know, the kershaw cyclone and his little brother the mini have been discontinued. :( i have just started edcing the large one and really dig this meaty leaf shaped folder. some say it's too heavy, some say it's gimmicky. won't last. etc.... for all you who don't like mr. cyclone, don't post, make your own thread.

so, i'm declaring this the "unofficial cyclone death thread". i will post pics every few days untill mr. cyclone breaks! feel free to post glorious macho pics of your cyclones.

viva le cyclone!

so i've been edcing mr. cyclone for about a week. it was sharp out of the box. just steeled it a bit. reminds me of my spyderco manix because if i don't wear a belt it pulls my shorts down when i run! so i lit up the weber and grilled some short ribs, roasted garlic/gruyere cheese sausaage, and portuguese sausage. mr cyclone cuts just fine! oh some BEERS too!

The thread title is very misleading..........

I'd probably never get to use a cyclone unless I take the AO spring out :(.

actually not, i'm simply gonna use it until it dies! i hope its a slow death!

Even when it does break, kershaw will fix it or send you the parts to do so...After a long time, my AO spring wore out (the knife still worked manually). Kershaw had me a new part (and a spare) in days.

I assume you already know this, but just in case: the AO can be deactivated with a switch. But I suspect if your concern is law-related, that won't do you much good.

Yeah it's law related, somehow the politicians think a spring makes a knife soo much more deadly lol.

when the wifey buys it, i just drink it.:D after 6-7, who cares. besides, i got to watch my figure.;) at 205 lb's, i ain't no spring chicken!

Well by American male standards your far from ginormous, so my advice is, buy some good beer and take up jogging to offset the increase in calories. Or give up a meal but for the sake of all that is good is and wholesome give up the Heineken light. Amstel is light and almost tastes o.k. . Almost.;)

any way, back on subject. i went fishing with my kids. mr cyclone did the usual chores cutting line, bait, etc... . performed well. still sharp. didn't catch anything but saw some cool fish and had a few bites. kids got excited! came home, maintained gear. mr. cyclone has no rust. that's coming from a island in the middle of the pacific!

time to relax! cheers! kimo

ps-yeah, budlight. it's on sale, i get buzzed (20 pack:D), and it's made in the USA! just like mr cyclone!:D

BTW, if you got cable TV, check out FoodNetwork channel, program:
"Good Eats". Host Alton Brown is a knife guy and whips out a Cyclone from time to time to slice and dice fruit, etc.
He seems to like Kershaw, his chef knives are Shun Kershaw, and he often uses the Kershaw Shun Higo Folding Steak Knife when out and about.
In some of his 'exploration' skits, dressed as a jungle explorer, he's worn a neck knife.

My kinda chef! :)

I hope 1kimo4u doesn't mind if I add some pictures to this thread, but I thought they were appropriate. Setting up a planted fish tank at my friends house today, I knew there would be some dirty work, so I brought my Cyclone. Used it to cut open a BUNCH of bags of gravel, potting soil, cut some tubing, etc.

They thought it was a little weird that I was taking a bunch of pictures for the fish forum, then I started taking pictures of knives! :D

alohaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

focus my brudda!:D no problem, with sharing the love of mr. cyclone.. heck, i can't figure out why more love isn't given to the kershaw cyclone. compared to the skyline, leek, etc... , mr. cyclone feels like a monster!

any way, i turned off the ao a few days ago. very easy to open, smoooooooth brudda! just cutting tyvek paper, sharpenning pencils, etc... (carpentry stuff). hit a metal strap with the edge! no damage. just steeled it again. still loving mr cyclone.

wow, this could be a loooooooooong thread! at least that will mean mr cyclone will still be kickin the shit out of what ever i be cuttin!

cheers! kimo

I just started another thread asking about why the Cyclone was discontinued before I realized this one existed...(my bad).

Several of us are wondering WHY was it discontinued exactly???

There was a serious flaw with the selectable AO that could cause the selector spring to bend and take a set. It didn't happen on all of them, but frequently enough that it was a problem.
Can anyone confirm or add to this?
