This probably isn't too interesting, but I thought you'd want to know.
Here in Czech, they say "Cheh-zed." (Not "C-Z")
That's how you say CZ in czech.
Chehzed.

Ahhhh, the Zbrojovka part is where my tongue gets tied.

Actually, I am a fan of CZ products.
75B 9mm, 75B .40 S&W, Kadette .22 conversion kit, 513 .22 rifle, 2075 RAMI .40 S&W
All of them work just great, and here in the states, are a huge bargain in reliable firearms.

Huh?... Zed's dead! They must not have gotten the memo over in Czech :D

I'm a fan of CZ too... the ones I played with over in Europe were well built.

daddydett,
if it helps, the "j" in czech is pronounced like a "y"

I have to mention, they were insulted that I suggested the CZs were copies of the Browning HI-power.
Am I mistaken?

I thought they looked alike. You might not say that the CZ is a copy of the Hi-Power, but it is very clear that the Hi-Power was the "operational" design model. I mean, if there was a 1911 in this picture, you wouldn't even think twice about whether or not they look alike. These two pistols clearly share a design ancestry.
It's not an insult, the hi-power is a great pistol. I am not a huge fan of the 9mm, but I don't want to get shot with one and I would be happy to have one if I needed it.

The Hi-Power was John Browning's next design after the 1911,
and in some ways, I feel, a more reliable pistol than the original 1911.
While similar in ergonomics, the operating systems are different.
The Hi-Power aka P-35 is single action only, and has a magazine safety.
The CZ 75B is single/double action, and doesnt have the mag safety.
The trigger is much easier to tune on a CZ.

Either is a fine, reliable choice in a high capacity 9mm.
As for the 9mm cartridge, it isnt my first choice either, but it is certainly adequate for close range personal defense.
CZ now has 3 or 4 pistols available in .40 S&W, as well as the behemoth 97B in.45 ACP.
The 97B is alot of fun to shoot, with very little muzzle flip and felt recoil due to it's large frame and heavy slide. It's not exactly a first choice concealed carry though, believe me, I tried it with the one I owned for a couple years.

CZ-82 is an incredible pistol bargain. CZ quality, 12+1 9x18mm- $159-200.

Feels great in the hand, never jams, decent round- just order a case at a time online.

Bought my first CZ75 back in 1978...still have it and it still shoots well. Barrel is a bit oversize at about .357 but it shoots well. My second CZ75 bought in 1986 is slightly more accurate.
Here in South Africa the CZ firearms were especially popular as back in the days of apartheid and the arms embargo in place against SA by the UN we had to scramble to get good firearms from all over. Strangely enough, SA government at the time was vehemently anti-communist. We could not get arms from the west but we could get CZ's at a great price from the combloc.
I think the greatest accolade paid to the CZ design has been the number of companies which have made copies over the years - Tanfoglio & Soluthern come to mind. Due to the low cost many security companies bought them for their staff, but the tight tolerances, sloppy maintenance of uncaring users and cheap ammo made to doubtful specs proved to be the downfall of the design as they gained a reputation for unreliability when dirty. I must say that I have always found my CZ's (and those of my friends) to be boringly reliable. Truly, a great design.

A better example of a copy is the EAA witness being a clone of the CZ-75. I agree it wouldn't be an insult but I could see why the Czechs would be a little proud and protective of the CZ.

The CZ design is altered and reproduced all over the world. Armalite's new pistol is a CZ clone, the AR-24 (?) The Jericho, Witness, Baby Eagle and others are CZ types.

I forgot the IMI 941 FB Jericho we own as well.
Add a polygonol rifled barrel and shorter reach trigger to CZ reliability.
And it cost me under $250 in 2003.

I don't have a CZ yet but my next pistol will probably be a CZ.

I've hear a lot of good things about them.

I'm also a big fan of the Hi-Power and it looks to me CZ might have actually improved one of Browning's ingenious designs, which is no small feat. The CZ in Danny's pic is clearly kin to the Hi-Power, but it looks like it has better ergonomics.

hmmmmm.... may have to look into getting a CZ 40 cal....

What do you guys suggest for someone that shoots all kinds but I carry mainly a Glock 22....

Like the 1911's as well, but not a 45 fan.

Maybe you'd like a Springfield Armory XD?

I'd love to find a CZ-82 for $200 or less!

AIM Surplus dot com; "surplus handguns."

John, they've raised it to $209 from $199... but the pistol I got from them was new, not like-new. Amazing.

I know someone who saw mine, and ordered three. Same deal.

And they're C&R/class 003 FFL; everybody's got one of those. :D

Centerfire had them for $159 and somebody put in on a gun board- they blew out the door.

Mike

Yeah, Mike, I've been aware of AIM's for a while. $209+shipping+FFL fees...
Well, I really want one. I'll send another email to my FFL.
