Hello everyone! This is my first post here! I’m just in a pickle. I inherited a D’Holder custom “finger groove S guard model” from my late father. It was engraved by Bruce Shaw with his initials. I’m a chef by trade and know a quality blade when I see one. This goes beyond that. It’s the most well built knife I have ever held in my hands. The African Blackwood scales got nibbled a little by one of my dads puppies years ago.
So my question is this, do I use this as my everyday carry? It holds no collector value due to its personalization and slight damage to the scales (not that I would ever sell it). I would just hate to see it be a mantle bitch. I think my father was too scared to use it but since I didn’t t pony up the money for it and it’s value is purely sentimental and in the quality of craftsman ship I don’t have as much fear behind using it.

Are there any D’Holder owners who actually use their knives rather than keep them behind glass? Do they fare well in the bush?

thanks everyone for any insight you can supply!!
Luke

I was thinking the same thing. I guess I just needed some validation to carry around and actually use what I am assuming was a very expensive knife to have crafted.

I use knives of similar value to that knife very often. They don't take damage from regular use and carry. Turns out, knives are pretty durable- especially ones made by masters like D'Holder.

I carried a D’Holder years ago as my hunting knife. it was a great knife and served me well through many years. I would probably still be carrying it some had I not gifted it to a landowner who graciously allowed us to hunt on his land for several years. I would carry and use it and enjoy it.
