What is the difference between the two steels? D2 vs 1095 BTW I didn't see a search option?

1095 is a simple high-carbon steel.
D2 contains various other elements besides, such as Chrome, Molybdenum, Vanadium, Manganese, Nickel and Silicon.

D2 will hold an edge really well. But as you might expect, it is not easy to sharpen with ordinary sharpeners. Diamond hones work well. D2 is more expensive steel than 1095, too. Some have said that it is brittle, but a lot of that depends on who did the heat treat. It is also more corrosion resistant than 1095. I have an Ontario/RAT-7 in D2. No complaints so far.

I'm a big fan of CPM d-2. It is quite rust resistant, and holds and edge extremely well. I like it better than CPM S30v

I am going back more to 1095 instead of D2, CPM S30V, ATS34 in new knives. I maybe coming full circle.

I love my mini manix which has a s30v blade, holds a great edge.
The RATs 1095 blades are butter to whip back into shape no sweat at all.
