D-9 up for grabs

Personally, I think Ryan's pix and the story with the knife add a lot of appeal to the knife as a collectible. What's the problem with that? Of course he's not the only person to go in harm's way this past few months, but he is one of damn few who have. We should be honoring that, not deriding or belittling it. Frankly, I enjoyed the pix and the story about honoring a couple guy who gave a bit more with free kickass knives. This is the first time I've seen a veteran criticize another for simply telling his story. Give it a rest.

You can see my comments about this in the for sale post.

However, while I'm no high speed chopper gunner, but a 19+ year USAF Security Police troop ryan's post is a embarasement to me as a USAF NCO. It looks like he's trying to profit from his short "war time" adventure instead of wanting to doccument it. Nothing wrong with wanting to sell the knife and sending along a bio of the knife's history, but adding a personal picture of him carrying the knife is out of line. It looks (and perceeption is 99.9% true) to me like he wants to sell the knife as a "look at me, I was there and a hero" ego stroking, money making post.

I've enjoyed the pictures he's posted and passed the link along to friends who outerwise would never have seen some non prime time media pictures.

Jerry, I've got a autographed picture of me & a bud in chocolate chips with my custom ordered Randall #14 and his Gerber LMF during the early days of desert shield in a un disclosed location. Anybody want to buy it??????? Now if I was serious about selling the knife and picture that would make me a looser for even thinking about selling it like this, let alone making the post. Jerry, does this help you understand how & why I think about this the way I do????

I'm not sure where Vince's post went to, but since I respect his opinion, I have edited my post. I don't altogether agree with it, but I do respect it.

Shrike9,
I'm not sure what caused your beef with me. I'm sorry you are ashamed of what you are because of me. Drive on. As to my short "war time" adventure comment, that shows a lack of understanding as to what I do and probably even more lack of taste than my original posting.

Don't have a beef with you, just did not like you're post and the tone of it. You have cheepened you're TDY and all of us by trying to sell a knife with you're hero picture. Sell the blade without a picture of you and include a bio of where the knife was and where it went.

Guess my few flights on a MH53J as tail gunner (50 cal twice and the other times a mini gun) don't count. I tried cross training back in 89 and again in 91 to become a gunner but was unable to since I was not munitions. But then flying on a Combat Talon & Shadow don't give you much insight into things either.

Once again, your limited experience in what you think I do is appalling. I'm sure a few incentive flights do not qualify me to be an expert in the F-16's mission. But, as you are probably a lot quicker to pick things up than I am, I defer to your expertise in this matter. Trying to cross-train and being denied seems to have given you a childish dislike for aircrew as witnessed by quite a few snide comments sent my direction in the past. Also, who are you to judge me? Although I obviously didn't do much on my "safari-like" jaunt around the country, I certainly didn't see you there. My bad for not looking harder. I don't have to brag to you. All I wanted to do was sell the knife. I haven't bragged here either. I figured it would be a cool addition to the deal for someone to have a picture that he/she can point to and say, "Here is my knife during OEF." It wasn't about a picture of me, but the knife. I'm sorry you took it as being about me.

Ryan,
I deleted my two other posts. I should have just e-mailed you directly. I apoligize for for my posts in the forum and have deleted them. I e-mailed you this morning. I also want to say that I wasn't trying to get everybody to jump on the band wagon so if someone else has something to say do it off of the forum. And again Ryan I apoligize for bringing to the forum in the first place.

Vinnie

I think including the pic is a nice gesture. If your going to pay a premium for a D-9 used in combat, why not have a pic of it with it's orginal owner? If you buy anything because of it's collectability, a pic just furthers it's authenticity.

Yep, I've got some limited experience in what you do. Never said I was a expert, just that I've got limited knowledge. No childish dislike either, just stating fact based data. I did not crosstrain into muntions first as I did not want to be a BB stacker, my choice to do so. I posted that as background info so my reply to you would not be without some kind of explanation about how my opnion was formed.

However, since you've brought it up how much experience do you have in what I do??? In the past you've slamed rather hard on SP's and I've yet to personally attack you like you are doing now. Are you so childish that when you can not reply or justify you're answer you restort to personal attacks???

No bandwagon here, I saw the post and replied to it in the for sale form before ever seeing it here or anybodys reply. I'm a firm believer that if I post something and somebody else has different views then feel free to post them. No flames, just good old fashoned discussion and disagreement without resorting to personal attacks.

Anxiously awatying you're reply:D :D

PS..... nobody's judging you, just stating my view on you're post and reply. If you don't like it such is life.

Vinnie,

HI! Very impressive apology.....never thought you had it in ya.

Oh well, the PC training must be paying off or you're just getting soft. :D :D :D

Now, I am going to have to take lessons!

Take care

Grace

Vince,
I haven't received an email from you. What address did you use? I'll check again.

Shrike9,
Wait until you are blue in the face. Its a dead issue.

Here is my 2 cents worth:
I have a Nam carried/used Randall 18 solingen blade, hollow handled with rubber cruch cover and especially rare split back heiser sheath and, even more rare, it came with photos of the guy with a letter...this made for a truely rare collectable item for those collecting Nam stuff as well as Randalls . This appeals to collectors like myself in those early days. One day, I will post all these in the Randall Club newsletter. That guy received his blade as a gift on completing his course at the Citidal!

Now, Ryans' offer is equally appealing to me as a collector and his D9 is one of the earliest out there, its been carried in theatre of ops and his picture to prove that its been there will come with it. Thats all I want from a rare opportunity to own a military Strider. Dont forget if I want to keep it long term in my collection, it does matter if his picture is shown carrying this blade to prove it over the years should all be forgoitten.

I respect those who have a different opinion, however, as a collector, Ryan is not trying to cheapen anything, he was kind enough to offer proof of his blade being carried in theater nothing more. Its an honorable gesture. I know Ryan and he is in no way vane to the extent of promoting himself as might be misconstrued. I respect his decision and kind offer to make his blade available to those collectors out there who might not have a chance otherwise for a similar Strider.

Lets end it there ok?

Thanks Ryan for this great opportunity you give, us collectors.

Oliver
