Can anyone tell me what the point of a double action auto is?? Someone told me they were "like mousse for bald men" How do the rest of you feel about this??

Thanks

It shows off the mechanical cleverness of the maker.

It allows the owner to open the knife in a "polite" manner when among people who might be startled by an Evil Switchblade. Politeness is good.

If the release on a D/A auto is less than obvious, it might not be identified as a switchblade by an authority figure who takes an interest in somebody's pocket knives.

And if it has a thumb stud, it is arguably street-legal in California, in the unique language of Section 653K of the penal code here.

With a D/A, if the spring mechanism breaks (which it has for me), the blade can still be employed with the thumbstud. A broken auto-only knife is useless.

What kind of MThunter are you anyway?

The DA Socom is one of my faves.

Perhaps I need to take that "Strategic Smiley Placement" class that Spark is offering...

Yeah, MT is for Montana, not Microtech, sorry to confuse...
I posted this note out of curiosity, as I have never had a D/A, I like the point about a broken spring, that made sense.

you've got to give it to them - it is ALLOT better then the auto-with-safety fashion we see now - NOW that makes no sense whatsoever.

if you wanna secure it - get a regular folder - if you wanna have an auto - why the safety - to be PC? man - if it takes two movements to open a knife I'd rather use the spyder hole or any other one hand device - it sure will take far less time and will be much safer and less prone to failure under stress...
its like the double action on guns - an ingenious solution to a non existing problem...
