my "baby" will be shipped on wednesday! i am so happy!

for those of you who dont know what im refering to, i am refering to the Kershaw Offset. i found the alluminum handled version here www.budk.com for $149.99. ironicly, kneedeep found the same thing and we both told eachother. i really like the alluminum version. its the one that caused me to fall in love with the offset. it should be here monday or tuesday next week. im too excited not to post something until then.

await the review!

till then,

GO KERSHAW!

What?!?!?
Mine got here today!
And I waited 'til I was sure you ordered yours! :p
Hang in there, I'm sure it'll get to you soon.

kneedeep. ur in FLORIDA!!!! you are way closer than me. should be here tomorow or monday. so did yours have a serial #? if so what one?

The SN was in the 900's, I don't have it handy. I was hoping they had a dug up an early forgotten cache of them... You'll be happy to know that it is the black blade (obviously since it has a SN).

Make sure you double check the total on the shipping confirmation and the order confirmation they sent you. My credit card got charged the full retail price of the Offset, $299 instead of the $149 on the checkout page. I already called them and hopefully it got straightened out.

thats cool. yes i am happy. black blade goooood

i'll check, even though I ordered it over the phone. Im worried that they got my addy wrong! even though they already have me in their database. I am paranoid i kno.

make sure you take some pics (or more pics). i will too, and i think that i will do a video review as well and post the link

ok folks i just my "Baby" today so I am really excited!

first let me say this to Ken Onion. You did an AWSOME job on the Offset design. Everything from the shape of the blade, to the hand hugging handle. You do excelent work and look forward to possibly one day owning one of your custom Offsets.

now back to the review.

So i get a package from the UPS guy today and I know exactly what it is. I sit down and open the package to find one of the largest knife boxes I've seen. Quickly I open it and reveal the carrying case. As I unzip it I see the most beautiful knife I have ever seen (production anyway). I was thrilled to say the least!

Overall opinion:

Knife overall: 10 (I can see why this beauty won the 2005 KOY award)

fit and finish: 9. Blade coating is excellent and handle is very well done. (I give it a 9 cause I do think that the clip could have used a coating. The clip is stunning, but shows finger prints to easily)

Edge: 10. simply put the sharpest knife I own. It is in the relm between scary and hair poping. I have to press my blur somewhat when shaving my arm. With the Offset, I barely touch the hair and its gone. Grinds are very even.

Speed safe: 9.5 not as fast as I thought, but still prety darn fast. blame the large balde.

handle: 10 what can i say? the paint design is beautiful. I love it.

I will post pics later this evening.

Congratulations Offsetlover on getting your Offset!
How'd you do on the serial number?

For flipping it open you can use the weight of the blade to speed it up; just point it down a bit, and it'll probably be opening too fast.

I was playing with my Offset the other night and just noticed how amazingly well the blade opens using the thumbstud. It is actually the easiest knife to open with the thumbstud that I've used! Just slide your thumb forward along the bottom edge of the scale so it hits the stud, and it just opens.Your thumb doesn't have to follow through at all (or even leave the scale).

the SN is 980.

I will have to do that with the blade.

I am so impressed with this knife! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I just got an Offset w/gray blade off fleabay(new) and my thumb lock sticks pretty bad. If I use the left thumb stud it doesn't move at all, however when I press on the right thumb stud it does release. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
CM

Offsetlover beat me to it. 1597 and a 1597GRY. Thanks for the assist.

no prob kneedeep.

i will try to get some pics up soon. ive got some stuff to get done before i can resize the pics. right now they are at like 3000 x 2000 or something like that

I've noticed this on some of my studlock knives when they were fresh out of the box. It seems like the coatings on the various surfaces (studs and blade) have enough texture, when new to have fair bit of friction when locked. With the blade in the open, but not locked position I worked the thumbstud forward and back against its spring from each side. This seems to break it in a bit faster. A light coat of your favorite knife lube on the stud and its keyway also seems to help and not have a negative effect on lock up. Finally just open and close it a lot.:D Its fun anyway.
