D@#$ FUF dropped a bomb in my shop last night

Haven't had much luck lately and last night was even more fun than usual. I got my new forge done and one of the tires went flat immediately, its set up like a furniture dolly. The inner tube had a 3 " split, couldn't find an innertube so I bought a new wheel. Only $5, but now I got a tire and rim I'm too cheap to throw away stored in the workbench.
So then I started making a set of tongs last night once I got the wheel fixed. Had them about 90% shaped and my propane tank froze....solid. Let it sit for an hour with the valve closed and I still didn't have any pressure on it. :grumpy: I guess I'm close to needing a new one.
So I decide to drill some holes in the peices, first hole the drill bit grabs. Its a long peice and I figure if I let it go it will flip and hit the column and break my bit, so I let go of the handle on the drill press that you lower it with. PING....return spring kicks in and pulles the chuck off.

I shut off the lights, closed the door and left.

Hey Matt, sorry to hear about your bad night in the shop...happens sometimes... Definitely put that tank in a tub of water, or even better yet, go to Home depot and pick up a 100# propane bottle and never worry about that happening again...plus they're cheaper to get filled than the little 20# bottles...

Thanks guys
I'll have to look into the water or a bigger tank. I've got to get pictures posted of this thing, I thought it was a really good idea at the time. Its got a shelf underneath for the tank to sit in so you can roll the whole mess anywhere you want too, not sure if there's room for a bigger tank or a tub of water though :grumpy: I might wrap some copper tubing around the tank a few times and then loop it up near the opening of the forge.

Well, now I've got to go degrease the spindle and chuck for my drill press and try to put the POS back together. Why the hell they ever made the damn things with a tapered spindle and press fit is beyond me

Matt....Before I put the tank in water, I shake it a little. It's kinda like a dance. I pull the piece out and forge and put it back in, while it's heating I slowly shake the tank from side to side. You can hear the jet pick up.

When It gets really low, I put it in the water and do something quick like normalize. Then I go to Fast Mart and get another one.

I usually find that if I go to my favorite quite spot and remeber one of the happiest events in my life - the world gets straight - and I can get back to getting back to.

Hope you feel lots better now.

HK

I rode my horse all afternoon and things are going better.
I finished the tongs this morning and that killed the tank, its clear empty now. So I've got parts for a set of spurs cut out, but they'll have to wait till I can go exchange the tank.
Haven't put the bastard drill press back together, it pisses me off just looking at it :D
