Its been a while since I've put up anything worth putting up, so I think I'll break that streak.

This is my latest and most ambitious knife to date.
It is a D guard fight knife. What I've done so far is cut out the profile, added a convex grind to the main blade and a flat grind to the back. I've given the blade a moderate polish, since I like my knives to look rough. I just finished forming the guard today and still need to put some finishing touches too it and get the pieces to fit exactly the way I want them to.
I plan on sending it out for heat treatment, since I've put a lot more time and effort into this knife than most of my others and I want it done right, as opposed to my usuall, "heat until red then dunk in ice water" method. Then I'll add my hickory scales and pin the bottom of the guard and fill in the gaps with brazing.

I like the look. What do you think if the knuckle portion of the guard is less curved but straight? Would make it more "streamlined" if you get my drift.

To be honest, I'm just glad I got it the way it is. I was running low of forge fuel and didn't have much time to fine tune the shape. Still, I'm happy with it. I actually have some big hands, so it fits me well. I may wrap the guard in some sort of cord to spiffy it up some though. But I'm sure that when everything is said and done, it will look AWSOME. (even if I do say so myself.)

Very nice. In some views it looks like a butterfly sword and some a pirates cutlass. Can't wait to see it finished,
Terry

Well, I finally got the blade back from Peters Heat Treat.

Now I just need to clean it up. I just want to polish up the cutting edges on it and leave most of the scale on there for a rough appearence. (Okay, also because I'm lazy. :P) Any ideas on how to do this? I'm hoping there is some sort of chemical treatment I can apply to disolve the scale where I want to without damaging the steel.

Well.... I kinda had a little accident with my latest WIP knife. I thought that after a little shapening, you know, just trying to clean up the edges a little on my honing stones, I should test fit the guard and see how well the balance feels before I add the scales. After a little (okay, a LOT) of swinging around, I'm happy to report that the balance is almost perfect. I suspect that it will be exactly perfect once I add the scales. Unfortunately, I had a little accident. I wounded my computer chair. Cut a nice chunk out of the plastic back rest. On the plus side, the blade wasn't phased in the least, so I know it can cut. I just hope nobody notices the chunk missing out of the back of my chair.

Just have a few more things to go. I left most of the discoloration on the blade, because I like the look. I may clean it up more in the future, but not right now.

Kukri me like :)

For khuks check if you can differentially harden it. It is better that way.
