D@mn, snapped a tang

While it could have happened at a worse time ... I've been getting bounced around like a ping pong ball at work. I don't often seem to know where I'm working until the day's over and it has become history. Anyways, when I got in this time, I found the house frozen up like popsicle, -12 recently. The owner has bailed out, and gone off to a girlfriends place out of town. Anyways, I was splitting some kindling in the only warm spot in the house. I was thinking about how wonderful my little villager has been in its short time with me. Suddenly, I find that I only have a handle in my hand:eek: The khuk has been well loved in its time here. I blued the blade, oiled up the handle, and then proceeded to beat her silly. I guess I used up all 100 working years in a couple of months:) My big question, is how do you hold a proper funeral for a newly departed khuk? I will certainly miss her:( :( :(

Funeral? NO WAY! That little khuk can be repaired. There is still hope! Art did some I believe repairs of this nature. Contact Uncle Bill. Somebody else might be able to do the repair.

What hoghead said. I had a villager tang snap on me and I gave it to a forumite for repair.

On a related note (sort of), did you see my post in the HI AK thread on the passaround forum? Please e-mail if so.

RR,
I just put one more stick in my eye, be in touch soon.

I wasn't really planning to get rid of the little blade. Even if I dont get it fixed conventionally, I'll be keeping it. It might make an interesting project to straighten, and turn into a fixed blade. Actually, just imagine the beefy little folder it would make:)

By all means, get it repaired -- with a radius at the shoulder between tang and blade (as opposed to square angles).

A broken tang welded back never will break again. I personally have a dozen or so fixes in the field all of which have maybe 15 years on them. Not one has failed and I'm a very poor apprentice welder.

I have no direct experience with a broken tang but I have heard what Bill said many times. Weld it and it won't break again.

Personnally, I like the full tang chiruwa style. I have not heard of that style EVER breaking. I'm sure someone has been able to do it somewhere but I haven't seen it. The chiurwa style vibrates a little more (when striking) people say but I can't tell much difference between a chiruwa and a traditional "rat" tail tang. It feels better to me. Try a 16.5" chiruwa AK from Bura. You won't be disappointed I think.

Truck, You've been busy with kindling.
BUT
you need to step up and send RR's Khuk on.
It's been a LOOOONG time.
Too long

Here's the thread for the passaround you still have
Unsent passaround
