Wondering which of these would be hard to sharpen and which would hold a working edge longer. I don't mean shaving sharp but a good solid working edge, as I will carry this knife at work.

The two knives in question are the DPX HEST 2.0 and any number of Spydercos (Sage 1, Para 2, Manix 2).

IMO, They are about the same to sharpen. S30V holding a working edge a little longer then D2.

Given the proper equipment and technique, both of those steels are very easy to sharpen. They both hold a really good working edge. I'd have to go with S30V over ingot D2.

Well I sharpen with a Sharpmaker (going to get the diamond rods when I get the knife based on the steels I am choosing from) and a strop for up keep. I don't plan on doing any major profiling just up keep work.

Similar to what Rev said, they are about the same to sharpen. I would recommend a good diamond stone for either one, they both take some patience to get a nice edge on.
As for the edge holding....it's close. A lot depends on the quality of the D2. German made is nice, so is CPM. There is cheap D2 that is not so great. S30v is always going to be the same since it is only made by one company.
I personally prefer quality D2, it holds a nice edge for a good while

Those steels are kissing cousins, so it's pretty hard to say which is better. Diamond hones work best on high carbide steels such as S30V and D2.

Steel choice and heat treat are critical but the third leg of the stool is edge geometry. I only have a Dozier (Folding Hunter) in D2 but lots of knives in S30V. The Dozier has a nice thin edge and is an exceptional slicer. Just to test it the other day I stropped it a few times on some cardboard and the edge popped right up. I havent put it through a lot of rigorous use but the science tells us S30V will hold an edge for longer. On the flip side the D2 blade will sharpen up more easily. But again, you want something with a nice thin edge. I find the Ritter Grip a great slicer. That's S30V.
