I had posted a thread earlier about a friend of mine wanting me to make him a cop tool. I have decided to go with D2 just cause of availability so i have started that project, but today i had another cop come to me and want a BIG Tactical knife made hes taking like 12 inch OAL he also wants it to be a convex grind and made out of 1/4 inch D2!!!! I tried to talk him into 3/16 cause 1/4 @ 12 inchs by 1 1/2 wide is gonna be sooo heavy but he said nope he wants a massive knive. My question is to you all should i get with Aldo and order from him or anyone got any suggestions??

I say make what the customer wants, he's the one that has to carry it :D CPM-D2 will take a much nicer finish than regular D2, with a little extra toughness and edge-holding too. It also costs a whole bunch more.

If you want a basic satin or bead-blasted finish, regular D2 will work just fine. If you get it from Aldo, ask if he will surface grind the mill scale off for you, it costs a few bucks but man does it save time and belts.

aldo will take care of you but you could pick up some cpm D2 from AKS......

Just to clarify, Chuck carries carbon D2 tool steel from Bohler. As far as I know, he isn't stocking any CPM D2 steel right now which is quite different. Just don't want to see the op end up with the wrong thing.
