D2 Double Tang Stamp

A little while back I saw a couple knives just like yours pop up on an auction site. From the limited research I did on them they appear to be from a 2014 run of 600 done for Blue Ridge.

Welcome to the Buck forum M MT_Pete . This is a good place to hang around if you like Buck knives.

The D2 118 blades were leftover from the 2002 Family Favorites set which never sold as predicted. The projected run for the Family Favorites 4 knife set was 1,000 but I think less than 100 of the $3,000 sets were actually made. Buck has used the leftover D2 118 blades for multiple projects since then. There was a limited run of 200 in D2 steel for Smoky Mountain in 2014. I purchased mine from that Smoky Mountain run and was pleased that I received one with Buck/Custom stamped on both sides of the tang. I don't recall if the reason for the double stamping has been discussed but I don't think it is particulary rare as a number of us seem to have them. /Roger

Thank you! I was very excited about getting it for $60. I thought it was a 105 until I bought my 105 Heritage model from Buck. Hopefully I got a good deal! Now I just need to get an original 118 sheath for it!!

Joe Houser brought some to the Blade Show in I 'think' in 2011 but it might have been earlier. Cost was $40.00 and was one of the few non 112's I bought that my Brother didn't trade me out of. I used it to break down 2 Florida wild hogs...along with a 651..

My D2 118 is tang stamped with the Buck name, Anvil, and Custom USA on the opposite side of the tang but only has ‘D2’ on the blade side normally reserved for the tang stamp. OH
