I just picked up a neat neck/utility knife. It is the REKAT Pikuni. It is marked D2 enhanced. I was just wondering what they mean by D2 enhanced. Any idea of the alloy content? Thanks in advance. By the way, this is one awesome knife. A little thick in the edge, but that is already being taken care of.

Danbo - I've been wondering about that too. I'm afraid that this maybe a little secret that REKAT will not let out though. Who knows...if I find out I'll post it here.

D-2 Enhanced is also being used by Darrel Ralph in his Mad Maxx knives. I'm curious just how it differs from standard D-2 myself. Some many questions...so little time.

I also use D-2E in my custom Pikuni's. I have seen the specs and due to my non disclosure aggrement with REKAT all I can say is that it is basically D-2 with some elements being above the standards for AISI. It is good stuff.

Glad you like the Pikuni Danbo!

Where can we get it and how much????

I have a Pikuni (REKAT CF) in D2-E and have been impressed with the agression of the steel in slicing. I will be thinning down the edge to a more acute profile, I believe that the steel will be able to handle a 25-30 degree included angle for light duty use.
Stay sharp,
Chad

I also like it, Rob.

Plan to use it, due to the short blade length, as my carry on a plane knife. Expect to see how airport security in DC and NY reacts in the next two weeks. Will let my fellow forumites know the results.

My experience is that airport security is totally intolerant of any fixed blade. I had a little caping knife that I'd received as a gift in my carry on. I ended-up having to check my bag. It was about the size of the Pikuni or shorter.

I am tempted to flat grind this little Pikuni blade all the way up to the spine. It seems like this would still leave a pretty strong little knife that would slice and dice a lot better.
