I am looking for a general purpose hunting knife that will do some skinning of small game and maybe deer. After reading a few threads here I figured that I should look for something in D2, or VG10 steel.

I had almost made up my mind to buy a Benchmade Outbounder in D2 for $77 but I happened upon a brand called Queen Knives. They have some designs that look great, come in D2 steel, and are half the price of the Outbounder.

Should I be wary of this low price? I also looked at a Grohmann Skinner but they just describe their steel as either 'carbon' or 'high carbon' so I'm not sure exactly what that means.

I have a slipjoint from them and it's great. Great quality great workmanship. A friend and I were looking at them and thought that they were a great deal for the money. I have been think of getting one to try out. I saw them over at eknifeworks for a great price. And for $30 bucks why not try one.

I just bought a Queen fixed blade in D-2 on ebay for use in the kitchen. Very nice knife for the money!!!

You can't lose for that kind of a price. Queen has a very good reputation, so this seems like kind of a no-brainer.

I have the Queen canoe. The handle is small for my hand other then that the knife is great. Since I bought it to send ot a grand nephew that worked out. If I were buying for me it would be the bear head. Hoodoo bought one of the heavier models. See his thread about it over on knifeforum.

Search for "Queen"

The Grohmann knives are very good. I think their stainless is 440a though, not in the same league as D-2.
