Question: Recently bought a very slightly used Benchmade full size Griptilian for 50 backs, virtually zero wear..anyway the seller stated he brought the knife at a famous hunting/fishing/outdoor store which sells the grips in d2 steel but when i got it the blade has the 154cm on it...so i right to assume this is not a D2 steel blade?

Yes definately two different models. The model that he told you he was selling is the Cabelas D2 model. What you recieved was the standard production 154 cm model. From the way you worded it "the seller stated he bought the knife at a famous hunting/fishing/outdoor store which sells the grips in d2 steel." it sounds like he either told you that he bought it at cabelas in a really wierd way, or he hoped that you would think it was a D2 grip and really meant to trick you. I would email him and ask him if he sent you a D2 grip or a 154 cm grip and go from there depending on his response.

The D2 cabelas special grip is worth a bit more because it is a special run with an "upgraded" steel. D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel that will hold an edge a bit longer than 154 cm but is a bit of a pain to sharpen IMO. 154 is a stainless steel that is an upgraded version of 440c. I actually really love my 154 cm grips as they are an excellent blend sharpenability, edge holding, and strength. However if AFTER talking with the seller that you determine he duped you I suggest telling others about it in the good, bad and the ugly sub forum.

The only reason I worded ""the seller stated he bought the knife at a famous hunting/fishing/outdoor store which sells the grips in d2 steel." the way i did..i thought we weren't allowedto reference companies on here...actually the seller stated he bought the knife at cabelas...I only paid 50 bucks for it ..so even for a reg grip it was a good price...i emailed the seller to let him know becuase if he paid the D2 price..he was basically ripped off...lol

Does teh blade not state what steel it is? The few benchmades I have all say what steel the blade is made from.

I got a D2 mini-grip about 8 years ago from Cabelas. It says D2 on the blade. DLC coated blade, black handle.

Oh ok gotcha. Well if you paid $50 for it and weren't mislead in your purchase then it sounds like you made out just fine. Enjoy that knife, I personally love my grips and whenever I need to grab a knife and go I pretty much always subconsciously grab a griptilian.

I have a D2 mini grip, it says D2. You can get a brand new 154cm mini grip for around 60 bucks online.
