What is the 14C28N like on the new Random Leeks and how does it compare to the standard 13C26? What blade style is better for EDC? How is Sandvik's D2, does it act like CPM-D2? Just looking for comments and suggestions, I will be getting one or the other this week.
Thanks.

Hey Michael,
First off, the new 14C28N from Sandvik is just now hitting the streets, and I don't have any results just yet for you. Give it a couple of weeks, and feedback will start pouring in. The reports prior to release from Kershaw seemed to point in the direction of a step above 13C26 in corrosion resistance, with edge retention being very close to the same, but definitely not any less.

As far as the D2 goes, Sandvik doesn't make the D2. It's welded to the Sandvik 13C26 spine by way of Kershaw's new secret methods:D The CPM D2 edge on the composite blade Leek is simply CPM D2 from Crucible.

Bothe will prove to be great slicers, but the CPM D2 will more than like hold it's edge for a while longer. As far as blade shape, I really love the Kershaw reverse tanto "random" blades, but the standard semi-wharncliffe blade of most Leeks is really good for detail work. Just get both:D

I have the D2 composite leek and that CPM-D2 is great stuff. I reprofiled it on my sharpmaker to the 30 degree setting and the thing cuts like a demon. Took a very nice mirror edge on it also. Add in a nice framelock, speedsafe, and the nice look of the composite and it adds up to a nice little cutting machine!

I have never had a problem with 13C26 rusting, so I am not looking for a more corrosion resistant steel. I did have a Spyderco Military with CPM-D2 and absolutely loved that steel. D2 has always been my favorite, Trumped now only by CPM-D2. Thank you for your help, the D2 leek it is!

I was in the same boat as you, always liked D2 but was interested in how the CPM process would affect it. Well I love CPM-D2 as it seems a little easier to sharpen the standard D2, and I can get a very sharp mirror edge on it that holds for a long time. Now the only other D2 to try is friction forged, which looks very interesting.

I agree, CPM-D2 is a noticeable improvement over the already excellent D2. I know the blade geometry of the Spyderco Military lends to this a lot, but CPM-D2 seemed to take a polished edge better than any other steels. I hear Friction Forged is quite the edge...

I have the CB Leek and it is great. However, some people really like the reverse tanto. There is a lot of 14C28N coming in the future, personally I am looking forward to the OD-1 :D :D :D
