Is S30V lighter then D2? I just received a Doug Ritter Griptilian and I already had a Benchmade Grip of the same size, large. The Ritter in S30V just seems alot lighter in comparison then my regular Grip and the Ritter seems to have more steel.

There's no difference in weight of steels that you would ever notice.

It is the grind of the steel that you are feeling. As far as weight goes, you'd need a whole lot more than just a blade to feel the difference.

Not necessarily.

I spent 15 years in the printing industry, and I met a guy that could feel the difference in the weight of face cards and numbered playing cards face down. I supplied the deck.

Very unusual, but possible.

Ask him to sort bags of sand which are different by a similar amount of weight. I would be very skeptical that he could weigh essentially the ink differences by hand.

Howdy,
found densities for the steels on the web:
D2 density 7.7 g/cc
S30V density 7.47 g/cc

So lets play with the numbers:
Lets assume a triangular blade 3" long and 2" wide at the base and 0.15" thick.
V=Area x thickness
V = 1/2 base x height x thickness
V =.5*2*3*0.15 =0.45cu in of steel
= 7.37CC of steel in the blade

for D2 that equates to 56.7 g
for S30V it equates to 55.0 g

Now this is ballpark estimates, but a difference of 1.7 grams? in a knife?
You'd never notice the difference.
