How hard is it to sharpen D2 steel, I hear its a pita but Ive never had any experiance with these nicer steels, any help and info would be appreciated (also how tough is it for sideways pressure...say prying)
And what are your thoughts on the benchmade 672 (serrated and assisted) and I think I can remove the assisted opening mechanism...right? I really dont want to carry it on campus and have it taken, the sheeple that run it are totally ignorant when it comes to nice things (lights and knives)

Again I appreciate you helping a new guy out, I really do

If you maintain a reasonably low profile, there`s no reason for anyone to know you have a knife on you....just keep it in your pants (puntended :-)

If D2 is anything like ZDP... Well my experience with ZDP went kinda like this (I reprofiled my ZDP Endura between last weekend and the one before):

This is using a DMT Aligner Clamp and XC stone, btw.

1. Hey, this isn't too bad! (Extreme reprofiling, I could see it was going pretty quick at the start).

2. Hmm, this is kinda uneven... (Spyderco doesn't get the sharpening right towards the kick).

3. God, it won't sharpen! (It's taking soooooo long to get that unsharpened part to make a burr).

4. Damn, now the tip isn't sharpening out (it's just taking a long time).

5. Alright, I give up; I'll just let it eventually happen after enough touchups...

So basically it isn't really HARDER to sharpen, it just takes much longer...

Don't use it to pry(and that goes for all knives), but I have a Para in D2 and a BM stryker in D2 and love them both and D2 holds a great edge for me.

BM 672S is a nice knife with the optimizer bar removed, smooth as silk.
D2 takes a little longer to sharpen, but holds the edge much longer.
Very good EDC knife at a reasonable price.
