Hi guys,

I'm Giuseppe from Italy. I recently bought an Hardcore Hardware MFK02 and I'm wondering how to take care of it and especially how to prevent rust.

I have some CLP at home, can I use it for this purpose and for long term storage?

Thank you :)

CLP is good stuff on D2 for storing. I use my D2 blade with food so I wipe it with mineral oil. If your not using it that should work. DM

Thank you David, it's a good news. I don't think I will use this knife for food, so I think I will go definetely with the CLP

Thank you guys. I'm really happy to avoid the purchase of another oil.... I use the CLP also for my guns and I like it... it's a very good product!

About Froglube, I have heard only good things about it, but as I said, for now I will use my CLP

Yes, CLP will work very well in this application. I have been using it on firearms that cost thousands of dollars without hesitation. It's a solid product, easy to find and works very well.

For long term storage you need some grease. I use Hoppes Gun Grease for storing my blued steel firearms long term. It works perfectly. Easy to clean off afterwards and most importantly of all, never had any rust develop. CLP is decent stuff, but it will dry up and get gummy after a while, where the grease will stay in place.

For long term storage Break-Free "Collector".

I generally use Break-Free CLP as it's a 3-1 product for cleaning, lubricating and preserving and does an outstanding job but for the sole purpose of corrosion prevention during long term storage Break-Free "Collector" was specifically designed for this purpose.

I have been using Ren. wax forever for longer term storage, and it has worked as advertised....
Apart from protecting the steel, it leaves zero residue, and that's a huge + for me.

I am sure there will be lots of options that are as good.

I also use Ren. Wax for storage of some of my knives (carbon), I carry and use a Colt linerlock in D2 and have not had any problems with rust. I think D2 is an excellent steel.

i use frog lube on all my knives that need rustproofing because it is a USDA certified food grade lubricant.

if you choose to use this product get one for guns and one for knives. the paste is easily cross contaminated with lead, cooper, etc from gun cleaning, and defeats the purpose of use food grade lube on your blade.

i soak the blade pretty good, rub it in (using heat is recomended) then wipe it down. on especially rust prone knives i leave the exposed edge or non coated blade pretty wet.

i do NOT use frog lube in my OTF. in a cool place it becomes thick and caused my microtech to misfire. i just use remoil which evaporates to a dry teflon on my autos and complex or closed folders.
