For those of you who might be interested, I found out today while talking to a Crucible rep, that they will be offering a CPM version of D2 sometime in 2007.
Anyone interested in purchasing precision ground D2 should check around for the best price. Today I was quoted a high of $88 and a low of $49.87 for a bar 1/8"x11/2x36". Quite a difference in price.

I have a problem with the last batch of blades that I just finished using D2 from them and tempered by Paul Bos. They will not hold an edge like they should. This is the first time I have ordered from them.

I have been using D2 from flatground.com for the last 5 or 6 years. I have never gotten a bad piece. They either supply Uddeholm or Precision Marshall.

I did have one A2 blade crack in cryo and they replaced the whole bar, including shipping.

I Love D2 but it does not take the best finish in the world...orange peels....
A CPM D2 would be outstanding...Walt2 you had edge holding problems with
D2 after Paul Bos HT it...Paul is the Best on the business at HT so I know it was not the HT...are you sure it was not your edge geometry....

I love there CPM 154 I am looking forward to using there new D2

Was away from the computer today until late. This was not one or two blades. It is several of them. I sent Paul a scrap piece for him to double check and he says that it is definitely D2, not something else. This was brought to my attention by 2 guys who each have a knife that I made with D2
last year and they both have one out of this new batch. This is what started me to checking. Both of them noticed a marked difference and called me. One explanation that was given to me was possibly a difference in carbide distribution in steels coming from different mills or different lots. The person who said this knows Paul and he said that if he did the temper that it had to be something with the steel.
