Whay's the difference between a DA and a MA?
Now Besides the cool factor, one can draw an MA just as fast as an AUTO/DA so what makes them (DA's) so desireable.

Thanks,

Wolf

Sometimes it's the idea of the button being hidden so it doesn't look like a D/A.

In other words the COOL factor.

I disagree about the 'cool' factor, but I admit it exists. Anyone who can pay 200 to 400 bucks for a quality D/A is past the 'gee-whiz' phase of his life since some autos can still be had for 20 bucks. Sometimes decorum is needed; I've trimmed things in church, for example. I own three 4" MT SOCOM Tantos, but carry a SOCOM Tanto M/A. Due to an injury, my Boa has been helpful. Let's not forget that these jewels we worship are tools for cutting--OKG

Old Knife Guy, the only thing my knives cut is air; except for my Sebenzas.

They are more art objects than tools.

A good mechanism - like the illusion by Darrel Ralph Is good when you have to show your knife to some “authority” and tell them it's a manual - they will never find out it is also an auto

But don't tell anyone I told you that...

To RGRAY:

"the only thing my knives cut is air"

If this is true, you have some major dietary problems! But seriously, I'm a believer in "using the good stuff." Your collection will someday go to your cousin Silvia's learning disabled kid. Why should he have all the fun of scratching them?--OKG

There is one practical side to a DA. Heaven forbid that the spring breaks on the auto portion of your knife. If this happens on a regular auto you are out of luck and it may be hard to get the blade open. If it happens on a DA knife you can still open and use the knife until you have time to get it fixed.

Here is my DA of choice:

IMHO d/a is primarily for the cool factor. IMHO auto are really redundant compared to manual one handers. Thumb studs, holes, and discs, are far less likely to break than a spring, and I really see little speed difference in opening a Military or BM 705 or
even a Delica or Native compared to an auto. That said, I'm not anti auto. I think they are alot of fun and if a person is in an auto legal jurisdiction, they ought to collect them if they want them.
