Here R pic's of my Dad's anvil. Need to be resurfaced?? Hardie hole not a square (4-90's) more like 1-110 1-100 & 2 whatever's.The C inside a triangle has 16 on Lt side 15 on Rt. Any thoughts? Looks like a London style to me. About 100lb.Weight

Tom, the following reference said there were "Columbian Hardware" anvils marked with a "C", but other sources says they said "Columbian".

But, then, I found this ebay link says it's a Columbian and yours doesn't look like that:

That said, there's this one listed, too, as "Columbian", which has that same triangle it looks like:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6164227429 Looks like it has the "J", too.

Hope I didn't confuse you as much as I did me....:(

I could not find anything at all ! You did much better. I hope I can actually make something on it eventually. Dad would have been pleased

I think that you can work this anvil as is. The gouges towards the hardie hole can be worked around. You dont typically forge over this area anyway. You could fill those places with a welding rod but I dont think I would if it were mine.

I might take a belt sander or a 9 inch side grinder and polish the horn and anvil face. Ive seen anvils in a lot worse shape put to good use...Mike

I'm with Mike. Its not perfect but it should work just fine. What inperfections you pick up from the face will be ground off anyway. Start hammering!

I agree with them. The end you will actually be using (the horn side) looks pretty good. Start hammering! Nice anvil.
