I have very distinct memories from when I was maybe 7 or 8 of opening my dad's small wooden box he kept in his sock drawer and rummaging through his trinkets. Among my favorites was a maroon handled pocket knife with a Zulu spear point blade, a longish, almost Barlow style bolster and it possibly was a lockback.
Skip forward into my late teens I asked my dad if I could possibly have the knife because, as far as I knew, he never carried one outside of camping. He had absolutely no idea what I was talking about and said he didn't have anything like that. Well, I looked but never found it but haven't been able to shake the want since.
So, for a few years now I've been toying with the idea of having a custom knife made. I believe my dad's mystery knife is the one I'm going to have to go for. Any of you have customs made based on the memory of a knife from your past?

I haven't yet but I will eventually in the next year or so have one made by Bret with cues from my pup.
I think your idea is a great one though. nothing better than a custom knife designed to your specifications. Especially with one that has ties to family.
I've got two 'spears in my customs, one that has a barlow bolster and another with a more zulu style spear. Here are some photos for inspiration.
