Today I was really pleased upon receiving the used JC Crowning dagger I bought on Ebay. Very nice fit, finish, and feel. But then I realized that only one edge was sharpened. Anyone know why this would be? Is this common? Should I have it sharpened? Where could I have it done properly? Thanks for any advice. Mark

In a substantial number of places, having a knife sharpened on both edges is illegal. As such, it's pretty common for the top edge to come unsharpened even on dagger-type blades.

You should probable figure out if it's legal in your jurisdiction before you have is sharpened.

Some makers leave it up to you whether or not you want both edges sharpened. Why? see like em sharp's response. I'm not sure why these laws still exist though. Are you more likely to injure or kill someone because your dagger is a double edge. Do you just give up on a single edge and figure, "well it's not a double edged dagger, it won't kill anyone."

I read in another post, earlier today, that Texas still has the no bowie knife law on the books. Just a tiny rant. Now I'm through.

Post up a pic if you can. I have a soft spot in my heart for daggers!
