Dagger fittings?

I'm thinking about making a dagger and was wandering where I could get fittings for it. I was hoping for something along the lines of what Bruce Bump's dagger had. The eight bar french dager he posted a while ago. Is there a place to get these? Thanks.

Charles, I had to make them myself. They are lathe turned. Do you have access to a metal lathe? I made a tool from high-speed steel for the grooves and used a file and lots of sandpaper for the convex shapes. It wasnt that hard really.

I want to try that lost wax casting next that Greg C was talking about. I have the phone # of his friend that does that if you want it.

I know that you made them yourself and I would too but I'm just starting out and I dont have a lot tools right now. Would the micro lathe that they sell at kovalknives.com also work for making those kind of fittings? Thanks for telling about that guy and I'll give him a call but I was really looking for something that was already made.

For the dager pummels that I've done I got a solid brass cabinet knob (Use the designer stuff)I threaded the end of the tang, a little file work and everyone was asking how I made it( I know, it's cheeting)

FOr the quillions, I cut them from 3/8 solid brass sheet I claened them up with a file

I wasn't supposed to tell, but Bruce actually bought all the components of that dagger at Wal-Mart and just put it all together :p

A micro-lathe would do something like that, but it would be very s-l-o-w... You can do stuff like that by hand, it just won't have the extreme uniformity that Bruce's did since it was turned.

You can create some very ornate shapes with files.

Different strokes...but I wouldn't recommend brass. It's really pretty at first, but it just tarnishes so quick it's really disheartening. 416 and 303 stainless work well, as does nickel silver (for something that won't tarnish easily).

Good luck, let us know (see) how it turns out!!! :)
