Dagger tip, fix or leave alone?

Hello,

I got these two identical daggers on ebay. One has been left alone and seems to have arrived in pristine condition as it was originally sold and kept that way. The other one seemed to have come with a tip that had already been fixed once before and on top of that I did some tests with it, etc. Let's just say it hit a granite counter top after going through a 2x4 lol. I tried to fix the tip myself using my Worksharp sharpener but what you'll see below is the result I achieved. The left side is the one that is in pristine condition, the right side one is the one that got messed up.

It has essentially already lost 1/8'' in length compared to the one that was left alone and I feel further sharpening will only help reduce the size. It will still pierce water bottles and stuff and in theory it has a stronger tip than the other... but it doesn't look that good anymore.

Should I take it to be professionally sharpened considering all the above to see if they can do a better job at fixing it or just leave it alone?

I would absolutely try to fix the bevels on the damaged knife. That said, I would probably screw it up and quit part way through, then come around again in a year with a bit more patience and make it right.

As it is now, it's really not so bad. All you need do is thin and even the bevels.

Only you can know your limitations.

While the difference is visible side-by-side, taken on its own it looks pretty good - at a glance I wouldn't have guessed it was damaged. The problem is you know what happened and it sticks in your mind.

Work on that instead of the knife.
