Hey all, this is my first post. I'm not big on knives, necessarily, but I've got a dilemma. I've had my Desert Dagger for like... six years, I think. However, I was out in the woods today, and I tried to stick it into a fallen tree branch, and I must have hit it in a funny way, but the tip broke off.
I don't really want to use this knife anymore, at the risk of causing more damage, in particular) but I would like something pretty close to it, since it's my main "fun" knife. Is the SOG Daggert any good, comparatively? My thoughts on it...
- Main edge doesn't have serrations. I liked that I could dig the knife into something with the serrations on either side, and follow up with a nice clean cut. The Daggert appears to be symmetrical, but for some reason, it just doesn't seem right (might be the circular cut in the place between where the blade starts and the crossguard).
- Cross guard is.... not a flat piece of metal. I'll probably like it a bit more, to be honest, but I don't use knives with 'soft' crossguards, so I can't really say. The Desert Dagger's crossguard feels so unbelievably solid.
- No option for plain old shiny steel. I'd probably get bead blasted, since it looks pretty 'hip' :3
- Not made in Japan. Taiwan makes good stuff, so I'm not worried about it, really.
Other than that, it seems like a solid knife with a bit more versatility than my Desert Dagger, and I'd probably enjoy it a lot. Do you guys think I'd like it, even with my moderately high expectations?
Unrelated, but should I even bother grinding a point into my Desert dagger? It would take a while, but it might turn out okay. Never done it before.
