I was admiring my new Steenkamp Dino slipjoint, and it made me start wondering…what is the proper pronunciation of "Dino?"

And while we’re at it, how did it become the name of a style of folding knife?

I always (air quotes) "thought" "dino" was pronounced "dye-no" and was a abriviation for "dinosaur". 🙄

No clue on your second question.
"old fashioned - like a dinosaur", mebby? That my best guess.☹️
(us "old" folk are called "a dinosaur" by the not old yet generations sometimes ...🙄)

I also just assumed it was dino as in dinosaur. Not sure how the name originated, but the pattern is attributed to Ricardo Ramano. Individuals familiar with his work may be able to provide additional details.

Hmmm....depends on what you are referring to I guess....

Its got to be one of the above pronunciations....
Its either deeno or dyno, there is no third option....
I meant I wasn't referring to any of the pictures in your post. I agree that there are only a couple of pronunciations.

Dino is a male Italian name meaning "little sword".
And with the origin of the designer I'm going with the Italian pronunciation "Deeno".
That makes sense. I think I'll go with that unless something better comes along.

Why ?...I ask in the voice of Al Pacino
Would anyone call a knife
Dino?
