We use Dakins (typically 1/4 strength) for a variety of heavily contaminated/infected wounds. It is not used routinely, however. The solution of choice is plain old normal saline. The bleach in dakins will impede the growth of healthy tissue, and its use should be stopped once the infection is under control.

I carry a bottle of saline solution. it has come in handy several times. for light wounds & flushing out the eyes, when stuff gets in them.
