Dall Deweese Knife

That's pretty neat. Simple but elegant... sort of. I bet that will look really good in a few years with patina age. Looks like some of the hunting knives from before the 1970's. I feel like I was looking into German/Solingen hunting knives several months ago, just researching some different European designs, and a lot of them had the bone handles and a similar blade design.

I believe it’s from much earlier than the 1970’s. Hopefully Brad will inform us.

If I was making this one for myself I would do a longer handle, but Brad wanted it true to the original design.

I wanted to say older, but I wasn't real sure. Seems like wood handles were all over the place in the 70's, thinking of Western, buck, and similar styles of hunting knives. At least as far as what I've seen on auctions.

I'm sure the design is much older, I was just less certain about when bone handles were commonly used so I kind of went with what I saw on traditional folders. Given, the folders like that seem to be kind of everything up to the 1970's when it seems like things started getting a little more flashy over the earth tones. That may be completely biased to what I think I see vs what was actually common.

The Dall Deweese knife was at it's height of popularity before the war, the War to End All Wars, now known as WWI. It was one of Marbles best sellers and was designed by one of the best known Big Game hunters of the era, Dall Deweese. He is the guy that Dall sheep were named for! He wanted a knife to handle his N. American hunting needs without being bulky and heavy. Marbles made them with stag or wood handles but stag seems to have been the most popular. They actually did a remake version about 20 years ago. The fact that this knife is made from JK 01 heat treated steel makes this version extra special in my eyes. It will go deer hunting in November.

Congrats Brad and thanks for the info on Mr. Deweeze, I hadn't heard the story of the naming of Dall Sheep before now.
Very nice work John.
