Would anyone here have an email address for Mr. D'Alton Holder, designer of the Spyderco "Toad"? Not ONE person in the other forums (or in the Spyderco website forum) seems to be able to answer my question about the "signature" on the blade.

Thank you.

Here it is:

Received my "Toad" about a week ago (only my third Spydie of MANY to come!) As a charter member of the "What kind of a name is THAT?" Club, I have a question: why does the "signature" on the blade say "D' holder" (with a SMALL letter "h"? IMHO, shouldn't it read "D'A. Holder" or "D. Holder" (with a CAPITAL letter "h"??

Perhaps Mr. Glesser can answer this?

Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to provide me with this info. Actually, I am going to telephone Mr. Holder tonight and ask him directly.

Edit: Oh btw, can you help me out on the difference between a production BM 710HS vs a pre-production 710HS? I posted this question elsewhere on this forum. Thanks.

Less than 5 minutes ago I spoke on the telephone to Mr. D'Alton Holder, designer of the Spyderco "Toad". He graciously tokk the time to answer (with some amusement) my questions about his blade signature.

Mr. Holder said he has used a SMALL "h" in his last name on the blade signature for quite a while, "just to be a little different". He said he now even signs his checks that way. As to the origins of his first name, D'Alton, even he doesn't know! He said it was given to him by an aunt when he was born.

What a fine gentleman. I hope I am able to purchase one of his custom knives soon. We did get into a small argument

over the "Toad". He thinks it's ugly, I think it's beautiful. What the heck does he know about knives anyway.

Thank you Mr. Holder, I enjoyed our short conversation immensely!

cockroachfarm,
Glad you got your answer. I rank the toad in the same catagory as a VW Beetle (old ones). Ugly to some people because they are so weird and different, but so functional that that weirdness becomes beautiful to some. Beauty is in the eye of the Toad (D')holder I guess.
