I bought a 1986 or prior 119 off the bay recently for $20 total. The tip had been broken off and someone filed it into a stubby nosed thing. The knife had been heavily used (abused) and had a lot of dings and hammer marks and, in addition, the sheath was also missing the belt loop. I've been looking for something like this to have a less upswept end as I don't hunt but do backpack and have always enjoyed Buck knives. I took a couple of my files to it for about 20 minutes and got the blade where I was happy with it and then sent it off to the great folks at Buck for a spa treatment. Also sent the sheath to my leather friend and he added a belt loop and here's how it came out. Blade length now from tip to guard is 5 and 3/8 inches.

I'm very happy with how it came out.

Nice looking knife, and I very happy to hear that you "fixed" the blade and didn't make buck replace it under warranty even though the knife's condition had nothing to do with an manufacturing imperfection. I wish people were more resourceful/honest like you and maybe Buck wouldn't have to cut costs in China. Your buddy also did a nice leather repair.

Yes, agree. Many times a damaged knife can be made useful again with just a little thought, some basic tools and some elbow grease. I've done this with several old knives including an old Marbles Ideal that's one of my favorites.
