Damaged, but still worth $12, I think:

Can anyone tell how old it is?
Clip says "KA-BAR" on nick side and "UNION CUTLERY CO./OLEAN.N.Y." on the other.
The other blade says on its nick side, "UNION/CUT.CO./OLEAN(?)N.Y.", with nothing on the other side.
I'm guessing the "OLEAN", because it's hidden under the bolster so I can see only "N N.Y."

I'd say it's pre-WW2 for sure, and in nice shape except for the decayed celluloid. I'd peel off the other scale since it will gas and cause deterioration of any other celluloid handled knives it comes near.

I looked it up in the 1983 official price guide to knives and I don't see that knife. They have a dogshead version and one with a hole in the rear bolster. They stopped using ice celluloid around the early 40's so the pre WWII I would concur with.

Thanks for your help, guys.
I think I will go ahead and lose the remaining celluloid. I'm not likely to be able to match it very closely even if it weren't a problem in itself.

After cleaning up the brass a bit, I find that the cover-less handle is split more than half-way across from a notch around the rocker pin. I'm going to epoxy on a cover and hope that will hold it. With my skill levels, I hate to take apart such a cool knife.
