Damaged edge angle

I want this to be clear and take other approach to do angle measurement. I use clay and penetrate it with edge up to the shoulders. I was careful not to change this angle when I removed edge back. Then I made picture and zoom it up. Here it is:

Now it is possible to measure angle. It is clear that angle is no more then 20 degree, even it is little convex.

So in deed damaged edge has drastically altered paper thin edge.

My appologies. I am very sorry for all troubles I cause, to my excuse - I was very sure that angle is about 30 degree. I am glad that it is actually my fault not INFI.

If it is possible - can you duplicate this post to other related threads?

Sorry again, Vassili.

Man that is thin,I don't think I have ever had a knife on 20 degrees (10 degrees per side)even my super slicers like my Spyderco Military is 30 (15 per side)

Hahah, some of my EDC knives make that look like a splitting maul. :)

Vassili, have you sharpened the GW since you damaged the edge? I'd imagine that edge would hold up fine if you put a 15 degree microbevel on it. Have you ever played around with microbevels? I have knives in ZDP189 and S30V that are ground about twice as thin as that GW behind the edge, then given a 15 degree microbevel. If you go too rough with them they'll microchip, but I can carve into hardwood all day with them, even doing some light prying and twisting to break off chunks of wood and they do fine.

He he, yeah, that's thin. I've done a couple that thin (not infi) and it does slice like a razor, but I wouldn't touch hard wood with it.

Thanks for clarifying things.

You tried another way of measuring, showed that your measurements were off and admitted so. Thank you, you didnt have to do it but I am glad you did, not always easy saying that you were incorrect.

Yes, thanks for coming back and clearing this up....better than many might do in your position.

The black helicopters are on the way, as per mandate of the 1999 International Summit on Edge Angle that declared 22 degrees as the absolute limit for blade edges.

That's actually a very good idea for measuring blade angle though.

Nozh, I think we all appreciate the apology! Good post and thank you!

You might have to work with the mods though since most of your posts are locked now and can't be edited.

Good technique on that - I like it. I bet it cuts softer things like a laser!

I agree with others, thats a clever way to see what kind of angle you're dealing with. Thanks for clarifying.

Just curious Nohz, but was that done out towards the belly where the damage was, or back where you had measured it with the calipers? Thank you for clearing up the re-profiled angle and setting things straight.

if you guys measure the area of the damage you will not that the rolling is about 0.005 inches. not a lot considering how thin the edge is. I posted a pic with mic measurements in the other thread showing the size of the rolls. pretty impressive really.

Mike, I think he is still measuring at mid point, which would make the edge near the damage much thinner. but not sure.

I usually strop mine down to 0.3490659 radians, that's 0.6981317 radians, inclusive. Everyone knows radians are sharper than degrees. I used to strop in mils but I didn't re-up.....Whshewwww >>>>>

Whenever people start talking in radians, it always makes me hungry. I love a good pie!
