Damascus and Ivory

Here's a terrible photo of any otherwise nice knife. The Damascus is 1084 and 15n20. The handle is some nice ivory I got from Charles Sauer way back in 2001. The guard, pins and inlaid escutcheon are Nickel Silver.

I wanted to take a good shot with natural light, but we are having a storm here and are under a tornado watch. I had to wade ankle deep in water through the storm from the shop to the house with this thing under my shirt, hoping I wouldn't slip and poke it in my gut. It's really frustrating about the photo because the pattern on this thing really shimmers. When you rock the knife in the light, the pattern looks like it's moving on the blade.

Here's a shot of the blade right after etching and before polishing. You can see the pattern a little better in this shot. Believe me, it really does look alive after the polishing. I'll get a better shot of the knife later.

This project may see some engraving, and it may get a silver sheath. I'm still deciding on that. This has been in the planning stage a long time, and has come together little bits at a time. I just don't have much time to work a "just-because-I-want-to-do-it" knife.

Damn Terry that is beautiful. I love the way the pattern came out after polishing, and that ivory handle looks marvelously finished.

Beautiful knife Terry - the second photo shows of the pattern in the blade to full effect. Well done!

Yup that one is gorgeous. The ivory looks stunning ,the blade is pretty good too.:D

beluga wants !!!!

honestly it reminds me of Fisk's damascus.

very very nice.

Is it still available btw ?

Terry,

Glad to see you found time to work on my little project. Silver sheath would be great and a little scroll engraving to set off the guard and pins. Put my name on the plate if you don't mind :D

Seriously nice stuff there my man. Seriously nice.

Terry,
You're just getting better! That is an awesome piece.. and it sounds like it's been spoken for!:grumpy: While I'm sure I'd be in line, if I thought it was possible... I'd be all over the email to try for this one!:D
That would be something to take to Eugene and show off at the OKCA show!!!
Keep up the good work!

Doubtful if there will be room for Blademan13 on the escutcheon plate next to the big "DANBO"! :) :D

Just kidding; I only wish I could afford this one.

Cool knife. I love how it looks with ivory and damascus.
About the photo, I guess you used a flash or too strong direct light.

What a wonderful knife! Simple but very elegant overall look. Why can't more people see the "less is more" when it comes to knives?

Btw... Terry have you ever tried using one of those automotive windshield sun reflectors to cast light onto what you are taking a picture of? This can work good indoors as long as someone can give you a hand.

I apologize for taking so long to come back and reply. Thanks for all the kind words.

At the moment it's not up for sale. I'm beginning to stretch and experiment bit in preparartion of introducing myself to a little bit more upscale market. This one has a lot of firsts, and I'm just doing little bits at the time as time allows.

This was my first billet of a 1084 / 15n20 mix, my first time to try his particular pattern, my first time to work with a full ivory handle, and my first attempt at an inlaid escutcheon. When I get around to a silver sheath, that will be my first try on that as well. I won't even attempt to do the engraving.

When it's finally finished (whenever that is), I will make a decision whether or not to put it up for sale. Since it is a much greater expense for me, and much more time consuming than my simple carbon working knives, I may find in the end that I have more in the thing than I could ask for it. :D I'm just playing it by ear right now.
