Blade : 1084/15N20 ~128 Layers - 4 7/8"
Guard & Pin : 416 Stainless
Handle : K&G Stabilized Spalted Maple Burl traded from Ray Kirk - 4 7/8"
Overall : 9 3/4"
Back at Bowie's Hammer-in 2007 I'd made some damascus that is still sitting out in the shop (really need to use those), Darren Ellis had provded me with the steel I believe it was from Kelly Cupples, and he'd given me a few pieces to take home to play with.
I kept the stacks small, 16, 8 and 8. This was one of the stacks of 8 that I'd done here at home by hand. I believe it reached 128 layers if I remember right. The handle wood was some I'd gotten from Ray Kirk a couple months back at the KGA Shop Tour, I was looking through the stabilized wood he'd brought to see what I wanted to buy when he asked if I'd brought any of my micarta and if I wanted to trade. So we traded. This was from half one of the blocks I'd gotten.
I've not done much damascus, but that's changing since I've gotten my hammer, I've got a few more billets and forged blades in the works. Planning to order more steel for it before long.
Blade has a bit of a deep etch, I'd etched about 3-4 times. Polished back up after and the light does play off the layers nicely.
Comments are welcome.
