Damascus and stock removal...

There are many custom knifemakers who work with the stock removal
method and who use damascus steel.
I have heard that there could be problems for stock removal makers
when they don't know the damascus steel very well.
The opinion was, that only damascus smiths should grind their steel
because they know it best. This might be a good point but I think it is not really practical anymore given the hype about damascus today.
Can anybody give some details here about this matter???

No matter what steel you work with, you have to know what's in it to heat treat it properly. As for grinding it, it's easier than most high alloy steels, a lot easier than some.

My eyes are o.k.???
One reply only.... anyway thanks for that!
I hope there are others who have an opinion here.
Knifemakers should have an interest in voice their
view on this matter...
