Last weekend I went to the museum of Solingen, Klingenmuseum and saw a Nepalese Khukuris with a damascus blade. Why did Kamis stop producing these?

Manoucher,

Here are some photos of an old patterned blade folded steel khuk. I don't know much about it and would welcome any opinions.

Interesting pattern. It looks like combining a high carbon content with iron and being twisted, much like pattern welding or mechanical damascus. No alloy or nickel I would say, otherwise we would see a clear pattern. Maybe an expert should polish part of the blade to and etch it again to see the true pattern. Well I am not a smith only a collector and we need expert opinion here.

Just my two cents.

Have to add that the Khukuri in the Solingen museum has a very, very nicely worked silver handle. The pommel is a head of some kind of god or so. The blade is made of a very good pattern welded damascus. Next time i'll go there (i am only about 70 mies away from it) i take some pix.
