Somehow, calling this a "Brut de Forge - (rough and unfinished)" just doesn't seem to fit, but I don't know what else to call it.
It is roughly forged and not completely finished, sort of. Sure was a lot of work to not be finished!
Selectively ground and then hot blued 324 layer Damascus.
I really got some nice chatoyance from 'Sweet Pea' - my 50# LG - and hope that bottom closeup shows it a little bit. It really dances.
As well, the spine, from the clip all the way around to the forged guard, has been polished.
I've had these pieces of Red Stag for a loooooooooooooooong time and finally found a use for them!
Nickel silver pins help hold the scales on.
If you guys don't like this, I'm gonna get mad.

Well this is defiinitely my favourite of your Brut-de-forge pieces so far. Love the damascus and I vastly prefer the stag scales (or wood scales for that matter) to a cord wrap. Very nice.

Karl, did you tell me you never use pins or that you don't like using pins? In any event, this must have been a difficult concession for you. HeHe.

I'm with Roger, and would even go further, anything is preferable to a cord wrap IMHO.

I like it. I am trying to figure out though what the story is with the guard area? Is the steel thats hammered out sort of left there?

I never cared for cord wrap either, however after seeing (not just viewing in a photo) and handling one of Karl's I purchased it. With the treatment he applies it's very durable and offers a SUPER grip and with the snake-skin or ray backing has a pretty snazzy look to it as well. And the price is right.

You betcha.
Just consider it a forged-in guard. Very functional.
And when you wet-mold the sheath around it, it helps to hold it in the sheath!

Did I say the word "never", Paul?
But you are correct, it was a step off of my beaten path.
Wait a little bit and you'll see me go down a completely new road!
