Damascus cans

Any thoughts on pressing your can of Damascus. When do you know it's ready to be peeled from the can?
 
Don't press it until its empty......could get messy........

the truth is its difficult to know for certain... but the dimensions play a key role... a 2 inch cube can is going to be hot enough much quicker than a 4 inch cube can...

if you know your temp, use the published times steel mills publish for such things (ie 1/4" stock vs 1/2" vs 1" etc) the thicker, the more time required

also... you might want to move this over to the knife maker forum ; )
