Never got into Damascus, just seemed like a gimmick to me and i don't love the look, but saw a Bear & Son with it that I loved despite the claimed of being Damascus. However, the more I look at it the more I question is legitimacy as Damascus. 20230118_150754.jpg
Notice the top right where the pattern clearly fades. Is this just an incomplete etching issue? A wearing issue? Is it a sign that is not actually Damascus?

I guess in the end I don't care as I don't actually like the look, but I would like to know for education sake. My thought is I'll likely take a permanent sharpie to the whole blade anyway, since full black is the look I like better. Actually while I'm at it, any negative side to that? I've done it to watches with DLC coating wear with good results. Can't imagine any issues with a knife. Maybe don't use it on food, otherwise good to go?

The question is, should Pakistani Damascus be called Damascus or a metallic abortion? To paraphrase Trump, Stop THIS steel.

Oh interesting. Didn't know these things came from Pakistan, or maybe it's just the steel from Pakistan? Guessing that means it's pretty low grade then?

That's not the same question at all. I am now just worried about the fading at that point near the spine. I guess I don't recall seeing an answer in there that would explain this. Still don't see it.
Geez, just google damascus steel and be done with it.....and I don't see any fading at the spine....

No, its not made in Pakistan. Bear uses high carbon damascus steel made by Alabama Damascus in Jacksonville AL. https://www.alabamadamascussteel.com/

Don't confuse him with facts.
Facts or not, confusion will still ensue......

I think you should buy highly specialized Damascus testing equipment and verify for yourself that the $15 knife has legitimate damascus or if it’s melted down bumpers from scrap cars in Dongguan.

You guys really are a bunch of intentionally ignorant cock suckers. Here enjoy a great Dick pic on me...Richard_Nixon_presidential_portrait_(1).jpg

You‘re questioning if that knife is damascus or not. Your previous thread had some responses that explained how to tell, you need to go back and read.
