Hi, I lurk around here quite a bit and need some advice on a new knife.
Basically I am a very lucky guy and my new fiance wants to buy me an engagement present
(she doesn't feel it's right to get a ring and me get nothing - and I'm not arguing!) Anyway, I've always wanted a small fixed blade with damascus steel. Small because I tend to get larger cheap carbon steel knives to do any heavy work and being small it will just get used for cutting as it should be.
Now I know the obvious thing is to go to a custom maker but their lead-times seem to be very long so we'd be married before getting my engagement present which doesn't sit well with her.
So the question is, are there any good fixed blade damsacus knives out there that can be bought 'over the counter'?
I've been looking around and come up with the Herbertz damascus hunter (3" blade) but they get some mixed reviews on here. It's not actually solid damsascus but vg10 laminated with 420 damascus which is pretty much what Fallkniven do so would that be ok or are reservations wider than the steel?
Also had a look at the Karesuando 3570 (Hunter Damascus). Their blades seem to be well thought of but I couldn't find any reviews of their damascus and use because that is solid damascus.
Any other ideas? Any good custom makers people who have damascus blades in their window at the moment?
Just looking for a small damascus blade, 2.75 to 3.75 inches, that looks good! Not for heavy use but not just for putting in a cabinet.
Thanks!
Andy
