This is one I'm finishing up for a co-worker. He requested is that I use Damascus for the blade and bolster. That I use a bold pattern on the bolsters. The rest was up to me. I have this fascination for amber jigged bone and folder's. Titanium is blue anodized along with the thumb studs. 3-3/4" closed & 6-3/4"open.

Let me know what you think.

Gorgeous damascus blade and bolster. I myself am not so keen on jigged bone on a modern (thumbstudded) knife, but that's more my own bias. Your work looks precise and tight.

Dam Bing I like that one it is nice and warm It looks like someone has a new pocket buddy

$7.50 worth of handle material on a handsome knife that should sell for over $500.00?

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me on anything but slipjoints...and not much then either.

Maybe get over your fascination of dyed cow shin bone and step up to some nice amber stag?

Thanks for the comments guy's. I see we are a little mixed about the jigged bone. I will accept that advice / critique going forward. By the way it does fit nicely in the pocket. :D

Thanks for looking

To Steven's point, while admiring this beauty, I did find myself imaging it with killer amber stag scales.
But really nice just the same.

I find myself in agreement with Steven and Kevin, and at the risk of being presumptuous....since the scales are screwed on, and thus removable.....why not pick up a nice set of amber stag scales and show us version 2?:D

Nice work

Nice one, Bing. OK, OK, stag woulda been nicer. But that's cause you did so well on the other stuff...that damascus is awsome!

Great comments here. You have twisted my arm :D. Tune in to-nite. Will post up updated pics with stag to replace the jigged bone.

Thanks Again.

I like the way the bone looks on this one. Yeah stag would be nice, as well as other things but the jigged bone looks good on it too. Gorgeous work

For a new(ish) maker, you want your work seen in the best possible light....the difference in material cost is relatively negligible, but the improvement in perception is massive.

New makers should try to minimize negative perception and be seen as a "cut above" the herd, if that makes any sense.

Well, I gotta disagree with that. It is very easy for me to imagine what this knife would look like with some nice natural stag or - better yet IMO - some colorful walrus or mammoth ivory. Doesn't change my perception of him as a maker one bit. Like you, I am not a fan of jigged bone. At all. But he almost made it look good here! However, if I was to order a similar knife - and I just might - I would still want something else - probably some nice mammoth or walrus ivory.

I agree. But I think it is important for any maker to produce knives that are "a cut above" the herd. The herd gets thinned.

Maybe you are saying that perceptions are more important for new makers than those with an established reputation. I suppose that is true. However, I can think of a couple of unnamed well known makers whose more recent production has caused me to reevaluate them as knifemakers - and not in a good way. But it wasn't because of the materials they used, It was because of their designs and execution.

Anyway, IMO this knife only improves my opinion of this maker's work. Jigged bone and all.

Sorry for the late post on the update. I had to remove more of the bark than I would have liked. However it does add to the overall package.

Please feel free to comment / critique

Thanks

I don't like the look of the screws, other than that this is a good looking knife. Imo.

It is now a significantly more compelling piece, imo.
