Damascus for Kershaw RAM??

Does anyone know where I might find a Damascus replacement blade for my Kershaw R.A.M. (1910)? Ideally, someone has a few already made and for sale, but I haven't found any yet, so if anyone knows of a good shop that could help me in this task, I'd be greatly appreciative!! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! Your request isn't one that I can say I've encountered before and I don't think it happens very often. I think your best bet will be to try to contact a custom maker, maybe through the "services wanted" forum. I feel like you'll have a hard time for a few reasons. One, I don't know what the maker will think about copying the exact design on a copyright/intellectual property basis. The Ram is a pretty unique design and to copy it could open a can of nasty legal worms. Two, it's a very unique design that would be both expensive and difficult to copy. Yes, there are tolerances allowed for, but to copy it to the specifications that would be required for the knife to work, especially one as complex as the Ram, would be difficult as I see it. If this is something you really want to do, go for it, search it out, negotiate, and grab it. But I think it'll be a very difficult process.

Finding a pre-made Damascus blade for a R.A.M. is going to be next to impossible due to the lack of demand and cost.

For the right price, you might find a maker who could make a replacement Damascus blade for your knife but the cost would likely shock you.

I would reach out to Grant and Gavin Hawk - since they are the ones that designed it - they would be able to tell you if they would even entertain the notion of copying their blade shape/style or not.

They made (in the past) custom versions of R.A.M.'s with Damascus blades. If they are not willing to assist then I think you have hit the dead end.

Thanks for all the help! I have contacted and spoken with Gavin Hawk, and was informed that he hasn't made these blades in a while, and doesn't intend on squeezing one into his busy schedule. Which I completely understand. I have only been able to find one shop that says they'll attempt to duplicate the original blade, but it's an "attempt". I was hoping that someone within this forum has had SOME experience with a custom shop that they'd recommend. I'll keep searching around, but if nothing else comes up, I'll try my luck with the one shop I've talked to and let you all know how it turns out. Thanks again all!

Oh and for the record, I don't intend to copy the original exactly, there are a few changes I plan on making to a new cut. The only similarity, in fact, will be the thickness within the frame, and locking portions.

Hmm, interesting thought. The RAM is a cool knife and would definitely be even cooler in damascus. Tagged for future updates!

Best knife I've ever had and hopefully the last. I just lost the main screw out of my first one, so went to order a screw and maybe a backup RAM, only to find out they're discontinued! Fortunately I found a red edition on eBay and paid triple what they used to be worth. Then I saw the ones that G&G Hawk had done, and fell in love with em. So that is mission now, red framed RAM with damascus blade and Hawk Grip Clip. I'm hoping that I can get the shop to reduce the thickness at the top of the blade, trim down the height (take out the 'hump' and do away with those dang thumb knobs. We'll see!

I just noticed, the second picture of the Hawk editions is like what I'm wanting. Lower profile and no thumb knobbies. Lol

Yeah, Gavin should be shipping out my clip on Monday. He said I timed it perfect, as he JUST started making them again.
So, I need to use photobucket or similar in order to post a photo? Has to be a URL, huh?

I'm in a gun forum (1st & only other forum I've really been involved with), and it's pretty easy just to upload from my phone, so this was confusing to me. I'll try figuring it out. Thanks

Hey Tex,
You might want to try Snake River Knives , they make Damascus blades for several popular folders.

Thanks daveb & Redconoe! I'll check them out and let you know if anything happens.
SaintlyBrees, thanks for the info. That clears it all up. And thank you for the link!

For anyone interested, I have found someone to make a beautiful damascus blade for my Kershaw RAM. I also found, ordered and just received my red model Kershaw RAM, for the the blade will eventually accompany. If I ever figure out how to post pictures, I'll show you the finished product once completed.

Hi, can you send me the info on where you located the red R.A.M., and the Damascus blade?
