Damascus Griptilian blades?

Ok, I saw a guy online selling hand-made damascus steel griptillian drop-in blades. I have one of his damascus dagger blades, which is nice enough, and will probably get built into a little knife one of these days. But I was wondering what you guys all thought of the idea. I was under the impression that most people bought griptillians for the good steel in the blade. Is replacing it with a damascus blade defeating the whole point here?

Well, I find it a little strange. I always thought the reason Benchmade made the Griptilian was to try to make an inexpensive knife with an axis lock.

IMO, Putting a hand-made damascus blade on a cheap griptilian handle is kind of like setting diamonds on a Timex.

Still, it's your money. If you like it, go for it.

Nope, not me. I don't even have a griptilian. I just thought it was interesting that somebody had bothered to make them. He has them for a couple of other knives as well. All of the replacement blades seem to be in the $55-80 range. If I could figure out how to swap the blade out of a Buck 110, I might consider it. But for now I'll stick with my regular EDC knives.

I agree with Tony. I have three various grips, they're great knives. But the handle looks like the sort of cheap plastic you'd get in a happy meal. Obviously it's solid stuff, but damascus (at least in my opinion) is for a "nice looking" knife, not a user. There are a lot nicer looking folders you can swap it out with if you want something like that.

i dont think it would be worth it, i have the cabelas version of the griptilian with the D2 blade and its damn good! If u had a little money to blow, u could spend $70 on a grip on ebay NIB and then just drop in the damascus blade, whatever fits ur budget and floats ur boat.
